Saddam1942 0.38a changes
7/13/3
*** Sorry it's late. I have been busy, yet lazy in my free time.
Full compatibility for BF 1.4 / DC 0.38
Updated maps with new vehicles, most noticeably the BMP2.
Added Battle of Britain and DC_Battle_Of_73_Easting support.
Removed non-singleplayer map support until someone gets me a server.
Fixed Midway and Operation Market Garden -- they are playable, unlike in DC.
Added campaign storylines to most of the maps. I quit later, since it was time consuming and prone to crashing. The story is different than what I wrote before and ties in more with the campaign.
American SpecOps carry Type99s. Russian and British SpecOps carry STG-44s.
Added Saddam1942's improved MG42 to Ural5323.
Greatly increased HIND gunner ROF but lowered the bullet caliber.
Set GrenadeAllies material back to BF1942's -- this means that hand grenades barely hurt vehicles now.
Modified Yamato, equipping with SCUDs and BM21 batteries.
Modified Hatsuzuki, equipping with BM21 batteries.
Added BMP2 to Iraqi carrier and BRDM2 to other boats.
Decreased Willy explosion damage.
Tried to improve T72 explosion/crash survivability, but it's still fubar.
Fixed some of the flags, messed up others.
Made the Iraqi_coaxialMG loud.
Other crap I forgot to mention.
SUMMARY
The United States and the United Kingdom defeated Saddam in overwhelming victories in 1991 and 2003 -- but could they do it in 1942?
Saddam1942 is a Battlefield 1942 and Desert Combat mod that takes place in a parallel universe, where Saddam has travelled back in time along top members of his regime, his weapons of mass destruction, and 100,000 Republican Guard soldiers to conquer the Earth in 1942 with vastly superior weaponry.
Saddam1942 is a marriage of Battlefield 1942 and Desert Combat, where "Lion of Babylon" T-72s smash Sherman tanks like cardboard boxes and Yak9s fall from the sky like rain from the missiles of merciless MiG29s.
Yes, it is unfair -- which is why the Axis/Allied team ratio should be set to at least 2:1. You can choose to be the Iraqi butcher who can slaughter the Americans and British behind a T-72 and get 120 kills, or you can be the clever GI who can cheer and then mock the Iraqis after shooting down a MiG29 Fulcrum with a P-51 Mustang.
However, it still takes teamwork to win on either side.
The full story, which I wasted time writing off the top of my head, is included in the mod folder. As you can probably tell, I'm an avid reader of Weekly World News.
Desert Combat is copyright Trauma Studios, BF1942 is copyright DICE, etc.
INSTALLATION
Battlefield 1942 v1.31 with DesertCombat 0.35e installed is required to play Saddam1942.
If you don't have BF1942, go to Wal-Mart and get two or more CD keys for the price of one by returning it.
If you don't have Desert Combat 0.35e, get it at http://www.desertcombat.com
Simply unzip all files into your ..\Battlefield 1942\mods folder.
Make sure you have the "create subfolders" or whatever button checked.
To play, create a new shortcut to Battlefield 1942 with +game Saddam1942 added onto it, or select Saddam1942 from the "custom game" in the BF in-game menu.
If you can't install something without a fancy exe auto-installer doing it all for you, get off your Dad's Compaq and play your Gamecube instead.
GAMEPLAY
It is strongly recommended that the Axis/Allies ratio be set to at least 2:1! Saddam can smash the infidels with one hand tied behind his back. I'm not sure what the exact ratio should be, though, since I've only so far played against a bunch of retarded bots.
It is suicide to fight T-72s in Shermans or T34-85s. Saddam's T-72s smash Shermans in one hit, while Shermans can only dent T-72s -- it takes at least 5-10 shots to destroy a T72. RPGs, Spandrels, and even BRDM cannons can chew Shermans up, but it takes a flurry of Bazooka fire and grenades to take out a T72.
It is foolhardy to fight T-72s in M10 Wolverines or T34s. M10s can wound T-72s and kill them with 3-5 good shots, but T-72s can destroy M10s in two quick, accurate hits. It only takes two RPGs to knock out an M10.
Anyone who can take out a T-72 one-on-one with an M10 or T34 is an expert tank commander. Anyone who can take out a T-72 one-on-one with a Sherman is elite among the elite.
Priests die in one shot from many Iraqi weapons and can get a few good shots in if they live long enough, while M-1974s devastate the Allies and can take a lot of punishment.
It is absolute suicide to fly a propellor plane against the Republican Guard! ZPUs, Shilkas, Stingers, and even PKMs and MG42s down them quickly. Spitfires are not worth an old shoe compared to MiG29s! SU-25s and even HINDs -- at the hands of a good pilot -- have no problem destroying them either.
Propellor planes are handy for shooting down HINDS, though a good HIND pilot can shoot down propellor planes. Anyone who can shoot down an Su-25 with a propellor plane is an ace. Anyone who can shoot down a MiG29 with a propellor plane is an ace among aces.
The B17 is very capable of smashing ground targets, including T-72s -- the only problem is keeping it in the air for more than 5 seconds, since it only takes 1 MiG rocket to kill it. It's easy prey for nearly everything from Stingers to T-72 shells.
The Allies have little defense against Mi24D HIND attack helicopters. Mi24Ds, as usual, slaughter them all, and typically don't stop killing until they run out of ammo.
Willys (Jeeps), M3A1s (half-track APCs), and LCVPs (landing boats) are just a bunch of mobile coffins, and offer little protection against Iraqi firepower. With a good driver and gunner, BRDM2s canhold their own against Shermans.
The Iraqi navy is hard to sink, but their Yamato rockets are very innacurate, especially at a range. A PrinceOW still packs a mighty punch, and can usually defeat a Yamato if piloted well.
SCUDs show up in maps where they usually aren't in the strangest of places.
Iraqi infantry weapons are stronger overall than allied weapons, as they are in Desert Combat. No4 sniper rifles simply cannot compare to Tabuk sniper rifles, AK47s and AK74s are stronger and more accurate than BARs and Thompsons, RPGs are much stronger against both armor and especially infantry than Bazookas. The Allies also cannot match useful weapons such as Stingers, PKMs, APLandmines, Mortars, and so forth.
Infantry fighting is Iraq's greatest disadvantage -- forcing them into hand-to-hand combat is a necessary strategy.
Fighting dirty is also another good tactic -- 9/11 attacks work well against T-72s.
MAPS
Allah modified all maps to create the mother of all battles between WWII Zionist Criminal Alliance (Allies) and the Iraqi Republican Guard, and added their respective vehicles.
Allah modified some maps to spawn their weapons faster, spawn more vehicles, etc where it seemed needed.
Saddam has hidden his weapons of mass destruction (so far, only SCUDs) in remote locations of certain maps. Can you find them?
WEAPONS
Saddam demanded that MG42 should have a 25RPS rate of fire, along with increased cooldown ability and better accuracy. It's fearsome, as a machine gun should be; bf1942 machine guns are pathetic. It also gives you a reason to play as one of the pathetic bf1942 snipers.
Saddam demanded that I put the MG42 on the T72, Ural5323, and everywhere else, so the gunner is actually useful.
Saddam modified his Yamato battleships to fire a barrage of SCUDs and ridiculously innacurate missiles to rain SARS, Ebola, and AIDS upon the "Zionist Criminal Alliance."
Saddam modified his Hatsuzuki battleships to fire rockets, and mounted Blackhawk miniguns where the MG42s were.
T34-85s have Brownings instead of MG42s. They don't get an upgrade.
The HIND gunner is now realistic. It has a huge ROF, better accuracy, and can mows down everything, but no longer does 30mm damage.
Everything else is pretty much the same from DC and BF1942.
KNOWN BUGS (that I can remember offhand)
As of now, I don't feel like recopying the old US soldier skin and model into the game, since I've re-replaced enough stuff already. (I wish the DC team would separate their code a bit more, though I'm not one to talk.)
I don't quite know why the faces change when the mip-maps change. No big deal, though -- I'll fix it if I release another version.
Some backpacks dropped are not replaced from DC, and some have screwy skins. Oh well...
LandMine1942 looks funny since LandMine is a mostly hardcoded weapon like the repair/medic/exp packs, but it's in there because I had to change the slot from conflicting with the Engineer's detpack.
I hope I didn't leave too much stuff I was just fooling around with for laughs in the game... But at least Berlin's not flooded with blood, Vulcan miniguns aren't mounted to tanks, the view distance isn't 1000 in Stalingrad, there's no snow or submarines in El Alamein, etc.
Some things that may seem odd are left in on purpose, though. Yes, there are SCUDs in maps where they shouldn't be.
I hope it doesn't crash too much more often than Battlefield, though I'm pretty sure I got all the big ones.
NOTES
I did this to kill time because I was bored in the quiet nights I'm off work, and I needed something productive to do.
I had a lot more fun putting Saddam's face over Mussolini's than messing with a scripting engine that crashes with no debug information at the slightest infraction, so don't complain about why I didn't do this and that when I spent time doing other this and thats.
No CODING is involved. BF1942 editing is nothing but data entry.
I disbalanced the game ON PURPOSE, and I had fun doing insane things like hiding SCUDs in maps they shouldn't be in or making the Yamato rain rockets.
It's my mod, not yours -- make your own if you don't like it, it's fun. Just get RFA extractor, GMakeRFA, notepad, and go at it.
This mod is neither left nor right wing, and is indifferent to Saddam and US foreign policy -- it is just bizarre. I don't care if I offended anyone with something included.
If anyone can find an audio or video clip of a pro-Saddam crowd chanting "Birruh, biddem, nefdik ya Saddam" (or whatever), please contact me.
As of writing, I might not even release it, but if you're reading this, odds are that I have. I'll only update this depending on public response and my own choosing.
In Desert Combat, the US follows Saddam through the portal -- but not until Saddam has control of most of the world. In Saddam1942, the Americans never find the portal, and Saddam loses World War II, with his disappearance remaining a mystery for centuries. In Bush1942 -- a mod I'm debating on creating -- the US finds the portal while searching for WMD, and sends forces back in time not only to defeat both the USSR and Nazi Germany, but to take control of two planets' natural resources.
